This year, we celebrate a milestone: 25 years of partnership and progress in the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala. We’re honoring the powerful, lasting change we’ve created together—a quarter-century of bringing health, healing, and education to dozens of communities. Our work has touched the lives of over 100,000 patients and students, and the story continues. The young children from our first graduating class are now university students and professionals, pioneering change and shaping a brighter future for generations to come.

Salud y Paz has been a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change in Camanchaj and across the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala. We have witnessed firsthand how our mission transforms lives, one individual, one family, one community at a time. Now, as a second generation comes of age, it is time to build on this legacy and prepare for the future.

We have begun a capital expansion project to meet the evolving needs of our communities, ensuring our mission remains as vital and effective tomorrow as it is today.

This is more than a fundraising effort; it’s a commitment to a new way of working—one that is smarter, more responsive, and more deeply rooted in the communities we serve. Our campaign is built upon five strategic pillars that will guide our work:

• Build a Sustainable Model for Growth and Resilience: Ensure our long-term mission by building state-of-the-art facilities and expanding our network of supporters.
• Enhance Data-Driven Decision-Making: Leverage insights from both stories and data to understand our long-term impact, making smarter decisions that directly benefit the community.
• Strengthen Quality and Education in Integral Health Programs: Evolve our health programs to meet new patient needs, deploying education and responsive care to empower community health.
• Improve Educational Attainment for Children in the Camanchaj Area: Deepen our understanding of current barriers to education, innovating beyond our school to help more children in the area succeed.
• Invest in Locally-Led Development: Empower the community by increasing Mayan representation in leadership and collaborating with other local providers to build a stronger network for change.

Thriving, Healthy Mayan Communities: Our New Regional Health and Education Center

For a quarter-century, Salud y Paz has been a cornerstone of hope in the Mayan Highlands of Guatemala. But while our community has evolved, our physical space has not. Today, our aging facility acts as a barrier to the modern, comprehensive services our families deserve, forcing difficult choices that affect our patients, students and our staff.

The world has changed since we first opened our doors. As chronic diseases become an increasing concern, we must shift our model to be proactive, not just reactive. As generations evolve, so must our approach to education. 

Our vision for the future is a modern hub for health and education:

• A regional health center housing three clinics, patient education areas, a new dental area, an expanded lab, and a pharmacy—all designed to improve the patient experience and operational efficiency
• An expanded educational center and recreational space dedicated to strengthening foundational learning 
• A covered communal meeting space that will serve as a versatile, weather-protected heart for health workshops, local leadership assemblies, and cultural gatherings.

This campaign is an investment in both our structure and our soul. Your contribution supports the immediate construction costs of our new Regional Health and Education Center while simultaneously securing the operational resources needed to execute our strategic plan and vision for the next 25 years. Together, we are building more than just a facility; we are ensuring that our mission remains sustainable, responsive, and deeply rooted in the communities we serve for generations to come.
