Our Mission
Project
Salud y Paz (health and peace) is a ministry of health and healing for
the people of God in need who live in Guatemala. It is a joint project
of 3 entities: Iglesia Metodista Nacional Primitiva de Guatemala, The
United Methodist Church, and International Hands in Service (a U.S. based
501c3 nonprofit corporation).
Project Profile
Project
Salud y Paz was created in early 2001 as a project of International Hands
in Service, a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that procures new and
used vehicles, equipment, and supplies for Christian mission projects
throughout the world. It is a project of the Iglesia Metodista Primitiva
Nacional de Guatemala and the United Methodist Church in the United States.
It is a designated Advance Special of the General Board of Global Ministries.
Salud
y Paz operates two clinics that serve the poor Mayan population in Guatemala.
71% of the rural Mayan population live in EXTREME poverty, having an income
of <US$1.00/day, or approximately $360/year.
Since
August, 2002 the clinics have been open full time. We have now documented
over 20,000 patient visits and estimate we have provided over US$1,500,000
of medical/dental services.
